How To Set Up a Domain
Step 1 - Make a list of possible domain names. These names should include your church name if at all possible. For example, if your church is Hope Baptist Church of Bangor, Maine, a good choice might be hopebaptistbangor.com or bangorhopebaptist.com . You can also use a .net extension. Go to the domain service you wish to use and enter your domain name. In this example, I will show how I registered websitehtmlinfo.com at namecheap.com since it was inexpensive and recommended as a good domain registrar. In my case, I created a user account (free) at namecheap.com first - you will need to create an account anyway so you might as well do so right away. Take note of your User Name and Password - you will need to log in again after you get hosting.
Then, I obtained the domain by entering it as shown below, clicking on GO, and then choosing only the one domain I want.
Step 2 -Verify that your total is for 1 domain. I would recommend at least the 1 year registration. Check out using Express Checkout to avoid a lot of the offers.
Step 3 - Enter your contact information, proceed to checkout, enter payment information, and check out. You should see a confirmation screen like the one shown below.
You are done getting your domain. Now, you will get a hosting account. After obtaining hosting, you will log into your domain registrar to enter two settings so that all requests to your domain are redirected to the hosting companies servers. This step is covered on the hosting directions page of this site.
